In the film Rocky 4, Rocky faces more negatives and tougher challenges than ever before;
He’s fighting a bigger, stronger, younger man in Ivan Drago.
He trains in snow covered fields with basic equipment like rocks & blocks of wood,
while Drago is put through his paces in a state-of-the-art training facility.
Drago had killed Rocky’s best friend, Apollo Creed, in Rocky 3!
He has to fight in Russia, over Christmas. The Cold War was on, his
accommodation was a country shack, freezing conditions.
His wife & kids had stayed behind in USA, no support.
Only if Rocky uses the 8 Steps can he win!
Have a Great Attitude.
Rocky must enter the ring with a positive attitude, believing he can win. If he
thought he would loose, why would he fight?
Maintain a Great Attitude
Has to keep his “Will to Win” all the way through 16 rounds. After being punched a
few times do you think he will loose his drive? Not a chance, he knows he has to
face these negatives in order to win the fight.
Be on Time
Rocky must enter the ring on time, and come out fighting. There’s no point in
holding off until round 6 to throw a punch.
Be Prepared
If Rocky didn’t train beforehand he would be badly out of shape and unable to fight.
He also has to be prepared to go the full 16 rounds if needed. Also has to be
prepared to be punched! Imagine the surprise if he wasn’t!
Work your Hours
The fights not over, until it’s over. If he’s finding it tough going after round 5 he can’t
throw in the towel and expect to win, however if he works his hours properly he’s
got a good chance at winning the fight.
Work your Territory
Rocky has to punch the head & body of his opponent. Although the head shots are
more difficult for him because of his height, he gets better results with them.
Set Goals
Being in a ring with Drago would be terrifying if you didn’t know why you were there.
However armed with his goal of beating the unbeatable and avenging his friends
death, Rocky knows no fear!
Take Control
After winning the fight, Rocky takes the microphone and addresses the hostile
Russian crowd. He’s just beaten their guy, in their country, in the middle of the Cold
War. But he took control of the crowd and spoke with passion in such an assertive
way that he wins the crowd over.
I believe it can be used in any other field...
